"Extraordinary Lives Deserve Extraordinary Living"
A Little About Kool
Devontae Terrell Barton, most often referred to as Kool, battled with Epilepsy his entire life, primarily uncontrolled Grand mal seizures. He suffered from a right frontal lobe injury, which probably occurred at birth, that caused him to be diagnosed with this disorder.
Although Kool suffered from several major afflictions, his conditions had minor effects on his spirit. He loved life and was a light to many. Kool, always encouraging others, was well known for his famous catchphrase
"That's A No-No". He had a strong handshake, a powerful fist bump, a contagious smile, and a hug that could boost your heart health.
The Devontae KOOL Barton Foundation, NFP is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and is dedicated to the welfare of people with epilepsy and seizure disorders. The foundation was established in 2022 by Lorraine Langston & Family.
Living With Epilepsy
Epilepsy is not just one condition, but a group of many different 'epilepsies' with one thing in common, the tendency to have seizures that start in the brain.
Epilepsy is such a defeating disease and although there is no cure, there is hope for a better life during this journey.
We feel that every individual with this disease deserves a healthy, strong, ethical culture within our foundation and we are dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals, particularly adults, battling epilepsy.
How to Recognize / Respond to Seizures
Living The Kool Life
Devontae was the “KooL” Kid on the block. He loved music, he loved to dance and he loved people. As a tribute to Kool, our foundation will serve the young adult/adult epileptic community and will provide them with an experience they won’t soon forget.
Adults, ages 18 and over, will come together and enjoy the fun activities and friendships that come with a day at our Foundation.
Our participants will be surrounded by dozens of other adults who know exactly what having epilepsy means. Individuals will get to experience a variety of social, educational, and recreational activities in a safe and monitored setting.
By partnering with local schools, community organizations, businesses, and social workers, our Foundation Case Managers will build relationships with the participants, as well as their parents, and develop a solid grasp of their needs.
